NEWS ~ November 2005

Answers to Recent Questions:

1) We haven’t given up on releasing “Live at the Ave: Hothouse Flowers with Colin Devlin” in a PAL DVD – but it’s taking longer than we thought. It could very well become a reality in mid/late 2006, but not until then at the earliest. Keep the faith, and keep checking in!

2) 3graces media does not sell any Hothouse Flowers CDs. The band should have its own online store up soon – please check
www.hothouseflowers.com for more information.

Film News & Congrats to Sherece!

The documentary screening for “Hothouse Flowers: Scenes From A Tour” went well – it was great to have other members of the band (besides Liam) finally see it! Thanks once again to Kieran’s for being so supportive.

Many congratulations to Sherece for her Upper Midwest Regional EMMY Best News Special nomination as producer for “Armenian Genocide: 90 Years Later”. She produced this program for Twin Cities Public Television's MInnesota Channel in partnership with the University of Minnesota's Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies. The program did not win but was in some fierce competition and as they say, and it's true, it is an honor to be nominated.

Music:

Liam’s solo tour was both successful and fun! Many thanks to everyone who came out to the shows – and special thanks to Seamus, Becky and Michelle for everything they did to make it all happen, and Gina, Sherece, Susan and Lelle for their generous hospitality.

As a result of all the work surrounding the tour, Liam’s debut solo CD, ‘rian’, has been released in the US on his own label, rian records, and distributed through Redeye Distribution. We are pleased to announce that Liam now has his own website, www.liam-o-maonlai.com, and there is a website being developed for rian records (www.rianrecords.com) that should be up shortly. Check out the online store through either site and purchase CDs, tee shirts and tour posters! (Both websites are designed by our own 3graces webmaster, Michelle Stewart)

Boston Irish Film Festival a rousing success!

3graces film, Hothouse Flowers: Scenes From a Tour was screened at the sixth annual Boston Irish Film Festival. The five-day festival, presented by Magner's Cider, ran October 21-25, 2004 with the best of contemporary Irish and Irish-related film and video. It is the largest festival of its kind in the United States.

Hothouse Flowers' singer, Liam O Maonlai, attended the screening of Scenes From a Tour and answered questions following the screening along with 3graces MN director, Sherece Lamke. Liam's solo gig at legendary Cambridge co-op folk venue, Club Passim, followed the screening and became a sort of after-party that lasted into the wee hours.

Thank you

Whew! We're still recuperating from our visit to Boston, and we know Boston is still recuperating from all the amazing things that have been going on there! Congrats to the Red Sox for making history. And thanks to Boston and Cambridge for being so incredibly hospitable during a fabulous weekend.

There are so many people who came together for this, and each of them contributed mightily to making it happen. We can't possibly thank them enough—but we're at least going to list as many of them as we can here:

Seamus McClernan and Michelle Stewart—and many thanks to Michelle's Emmanuel and Seamus' Maria as well. Words cannot express the many things these folks all did to make this Boston experience the best it could possibly be.

Peter Flynn and Karen Daly from the Boston Irish Film Festival. Amazing people who make things happen—and know how to have a good time. Go to www.irishfilmfestival.com and be supportive! And to Magner's Cider, Jury's Hotels and Aer Lingus for their generosity and enthusiasm.

Liam O Maonlai for once again making the trek over to support our film, and for the incredible music he made while he was here.

Mike and Ruthie Stankiewicz and their gorgeous daughters for all the driving, hauling, postering and flyering, chauffeuring— what a wonderful and amazing family.

Lisa Murdock, Matt Smith, and Teresa from Club Passim for making so many good things happen. Club Passim is part of the Passim Center, which is a non-profit organization that does a lot of work in the arts and in multi-cultural awareness. Please check out their website at www.passimcenter.org and send them money to help them be able to keep up their good work!

Patti and Susan for being there and being so supportive. Carol and Roger, Kim and Gina for making that extra effort to be there! Susanna at the Boston Virgin Megastore. Brian O'Donovan at WGBH.

Gabriel Byrne for showing up at the documentary screening, even though he had the flu.

Boston for being such a great town.

Hothouse Flowers fans for being the incredibly caring and passionate people they are.

“Hothouse Flowers: Scenes From a Tour” premiered
October 3 at Minneapolis Sound Unseen Film & Music Festival

Liam O Maonlai attended screening, performed at after-party!

We would like to thank everyone who made it out to Minneapolis for the premiere of Hothouse Flowers: Scenes From A Tour at the SoundUnseen film festival. The support was so amazing and wonderful! Special thanks go out to Teresa Afualo, John Cosgrove from The Local (the best exponent of Irish hospitality in the Twin Cities! If you’re in town, patronize his pub!), Patti Monaghen and, of course, Liam O Maonlai. The afterglow at Kieran’s Irish Pub was a wonderful musical event—and a great party!
