Jill Jack www.jilljack.com
Tickets: Advance: $15.00 Door: $18.00 |

Hometown
favorite Jill Jack brings her down-to-earth sensibility and
serious songwriting chops to the KJT in a very special acoustic
performance. Jill creates a musical tapestry that allows elegance,
grace, and rugged self-reliance equal to weight is a gift.
That she can carry them all in the grain of her voice as the
foundations of hard-won truth is simply captivating. . Her
6th CD Moon and the Morning After put her on the national
radar - receiving airplay around the US - one radio station
said: "Jill Jack; I just keep thinking somehow that if
Waylon Jennings was a woman, it would be her! She's sharp,
she's witty, and she's got soul. Most important, I think based
on her songwriting and style, she's got staying power; she
gives Tift Merritt some real competition." Winner of
innumerable Detroit Music Awards and with six records’
worth of music to draw from, Jill is just coming off a brave
feat: recording live, brand-new never-before-performed songs
with her favorite musicians. Look for “Songwriter”
to be available soon!

Grievous
Angel www.drumdancerrecords.com/grievousangel
Tickets: Advance: $13.00 Door: $15.00 |

Grievous
Angel has borrowed both its moniker and its ‘Cosmic
American music’ description from Gram Parsons, but don’t
let that tribute fool you. This band takes all of its influences
– rock, folk, country, swamp and psychedelia and more
– and runs them through a funky Detroit-fueled filter
and their considerable musical chops for some of the best
American music around. Grievous Angel live in a neighborhood
where Little Feat and Los Lobos are next door neighbors and
the Flying Burrito Brothers live just down the road across
from CCR. Whether pulling out a Fred Neil tune, a Dead jam,
or one of their originals, Grievous Angel delivers with panache
and a little buckle with that swash.

Mady
Kouyate www.myspace.com/madykouyate
Tickets: Advance: $15 Door: $18
Special packages available for email list members. |

This
is a very special show! Mady Kouyate hails from Senegal and
comes from a long and distinguished line of griots –
a lineage of musicians, oral historians and storytellers that
goes back over 100 generations. He plays the kora, a 21-stringed
instrument made from a calabash gourd that sounds somewhat
like a harp and a guitar, and studies and performed with Mali’s
Toumani Diabate, one of the foremost kora players in the world.
Mady performs solo, with his band Heat of Africa, and with
Toumani Diabate and the Kouyate Family as well. He performed
at the Earth Day Expo last April, and captured the attention
of many passers-by. We are honored to welcome Mady to the
KJT.

Drew Nelson
www.drewnelson.net
Tickets:
Advance: $12.00 Door: $15.00 |
From Grand
Rapids, Michigan, Drew’s latest record “Dusty
Road to Beulah Land” is climbing up the European Americana
charts – at #2 as of this writing – and was recently
featured on the main page of Paste Magazine’s website.
His music draws on the rich populist folk tradition, from
Woody Guthrie to Bruce Springsteen, with lyrics revealing
an incisive ability to capture ordinary folk in a decisive
moment – a depiction drawn with sympathy and clarity
– and a love and appreciation for the natural world
around us all. Legendary songwriter John Gorka said, “Drew’s
songs sound like the rest of us feel.” Drew wowed the
audience at the recent Benefit for Pine Ridge, and we are
thrilled to have him back!
